To be honest I've not heard of any of them bands, but I'm always up for hearing new bands, escpecially ones suggested from fellow PRR fans. So even though some of you don't understand this thread, some of us (or maybe just me!) see the advantages...going to start with Porcupine Tree...

Oh right, forgot, Porcupine Tree's new album that was supposedly announced...
Steven said he already wrote a 30mins+ song that has a classic rock vibe, or something like that...

God is an Astronaut leaked. It's very good. I don't understand this thread, you seem to just want to make a list? It'd be impossibly huge. Anyway, I'm most looking forward to Massive Attack, REVERE & PRR at the moment I suppose. Nothing else leaps out. Though just knowing Oceansize are working on new stuff gets me wet. I'm right in saying 'God is an Astronaught' is without lyrics? Either that or I've just been unlucky with which samples I've clicked ;D The music sounded great, but I have real difficulty getting my teeth into music which doesn't have lyrics. I find the voice the most expressive and emotional instrument, so something always sounds missing with instrumental music. On the plus side, thanks to this list, I've purchased both of 'The Reasoning's" albums from iTunes, after listening to a handful of samples. Personally I'd welcome further recommendations. I love Porcupine Tree, but couldn't get into 'The Pineapple Thief" or 'Oceansize'. That being said the former did one track I really liked, "What We Have Sown", which really hit the spot, but the rest of the tracks seem to lack a certain energy and drive, and I probably haven't heard enough Ocensize to make a fair judgement, but on what I have heard, the voice sounded a little generic and the production was pretty dreary. My favourite bands at this point are PRR (there new material is just stunning) the aforementioned FROST, Porcupine Tree, Threshold, Simon Collins (honestly stop laughing at the back, his new one 'U-Catastrophe' is such a rich mix of electronic, rock and even shades of metal all wrapped up with some great melodies and production) and then a little further down the list there's Gazpacho, Evergrey, Dream Theater, Queensryche and Spock's Beard. My tastes do stray more towards the heavy than pop, but that's probably why I'm finding PRR's new material so great.

Yeah, God Is An Astronaut is instrumental. If you dismiss all instrumental music you are missing out of some of the best tunes ever, fact.
Oceansize production is a bit muddy on 'everyone into position', but tight as a gnats chuff on 'effloresce' and 'frames'.
If yer into all that proggy stuff I'm surprised you didn't like them to bands. Pineapple Thief I don't really care for.

Dismiss is the wrong word, I do appreciate instrumental bands, I just find lyrics and voice really important, but I'm always game for a listen to pretty much anything. What would you say is Ocensize's best album to listen to then? As I say, my tastes certainly lean towards the heavier and electronic, and what I've heard of Oceansize, felt as if it was a little lighter and more indie in sound than I usually go for.

Aye, fair 'nuff. You should defiantly persevere though. Mogwai might be a good start, they've got a few songs with lyrics in. Perhaps try 'Mogwai Young Team'.
Erm... I suppose the highest concentration of heavy stuff is on the Music For Nurses EP. Effloresce is my favourite album really.

Songs that "hit the spot" for me :
Oceansize The Charm Offensive Only Twin Catalyst And Old Friend of Christy's
Pineapple Thief Too Much to Lose (a modern prog masterpiece IMO) Slip Away Oblivion Different World
And instrumental music can be out-of-this-world, really... Just don't see it as "music with vocals taken out", it's just a completely different songwriting process... In most instrumental post-rock bands, the guitars replace the lead role of vocals... Sounds amazing.

I'm really looking forward to ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead's 2009 album. Their EP just came out and the one song I've heard so far (the one at www.myspace.com/trailofdead) is honestly incredible. Very very very exciting.

Geez, I must be getting old! Haven't heard of any of them! Limewire's going to get a thrashing soon! We're almost 'of an age' David (sorry). Suggest you try Frost's 'Milliontown' album and then get yourself along to the CRS awards night to see them and The Reasoning live!

These lists are so incredibly organized. It makes me slightly afraid! I hear Imgoen Heap has a new one on the way, as do Mew...so they are keeping me fairly excitable for now.

Sad as it sounds it's the only way I can keep track of what's on the horizon (important for the limited edition, collectable stuff) what I've pre-ordered and what I've bought already. I guess the root of the problem is that I like too many bands!
