Bah, I was in a crap spot, people talking all around me, could barely see and the sound didn't carry nearly well enough. I'd also really expected the supports to be a little better for the price we paid, so although yeah, the fans taking over the streets was a good sight, I definately felt let down. But then I went to Glastonbury the next day and all was forgotten...now THATS value for money!

I kind of class Porcupine Tree amongst my favourite bands, with Muse, Radiohead ect. So I was fine with paying the £30, but not too pleased with all seating. I saw them last year and it was an amazing experience, so I'm really looking forwards to it.

Open Car is my 7 year old son's favourite song, he always wants me to play it when we are in the car - he just likes the opening riff, really ;D

Haha yeah they are, first thing that came into my head to have as an 'original' avatar You've brought him up well, and to be fair to the lad, it is an awesome opening riff.

Regarding the 'all-seating' venue thing. I've never seen a music-gig at Hammersmith where they've had the seats down-stairs (they are fixed upstairs). I've seen them there for comedy-gigs, but they are optional to the promoter/performer.
Regarding set length, Amplifier do between an hour and a half and two hours, tickets on the last tour weren't more than a tenner (apart from maybe London, and not including fees).
At the end of the day, the 'worth' of a ticket is just relative. Relative to how much you like the band, how you define what constitutes value for money, how much you like the band... loads of reasons.
I'd be happy to pay higher prices for certain bands where I can afford it. My Dad paid about £50 each for our Bruce Springsteen tickets last year and I suspect we'd both say that was more than worth it. I know he would because he's just bought tickets for his Hyde Park gig for more than that.

The biggest problem with a PT gig is that they have such a huge discography of mind-blowing music, their setlists are just never long enough to do it justice... I'd love to see them play Up The Downstair material if they ever come back to Canada...
When is that Tilburg live DVD supposed to come out?

I never got the appeal for porcupine tree to be honest, they just seem to sound like a really bad nu-metal band (sans the rapping), kinda remind me of the bands I used to watch at school talent shows when I was 14.
and the constant comparison/likeness to PRR? They really don't sound the same at all!

When is that Tilburg live DVD supposed to come out? SW in one of the interviews said that it will not be released until 2010 at the earliest, because the band is focused on the new album due to be released in September this year. Simply too much work.

Yeah, with you on not understanding why so many people are so into PT, but I'm maybe not quite so far down the not liking them road. I think they're alright, basically - not unpleasant to listen to at all, but they certainly don't have the 'spark' that's the difference between a decent and a great band for me. and the constant comparison/likeness to PRR? They really don't sound the same at all! Yep, totally agree with this. I'm always utterly bemused whenever people compare the two bands: to me, PRR sound closer to Klaxons or someone than they do to PT, and they don't sound a whole lot like Klaxons!

I enjoyed Fear of a Blank Planet, but I'm also at a loss as to how it gets the PRR comparisons. Still, I struggle to compare PRR to any other band so..

I feel you on that, I'm actually surprised there aren't more klaxons comparisons, to be honest. golden skans is quite PRR-like. I mean, for me, PT don't cut it, not by a long shot. they just don't sound right, there's so many other bands out there that do the whole 'epic riff' thing, so much better.

The older spacier Porcupine Tree stuff is quite pink floyd, no big riffs, in the same way some of The Dark Third stuff is a bit pink floyd.
I dunno. I quite like Porcupine Tree, but they aren't a band I can listen to a lot of frequently.

Yep, I'm with you on that one...FOABP was a good album, but they just never quite got beyond 'good' for me. I'd see them live if it was reasonably priced and convenient but I wouldn't go out of my way... I think I ended up seeing them so many times with PRR that they kind of grew on me, I couldn't stand them to start with! The lyrics still make me cringe a bit sometimes...

Wow, you guys must have only heard Shallow from Deadwing... Hell, there's more "nu-metal" in PRR than there ever will be in Porcupine Tree... Try watching the live DVD, you'll see... They're all extremely inspiring musicians... If anybody ever asked me how to define music, I'd name PT.
