So, BA mentioned it in another thread and I'm going as well, anyone else off here? Also, I'd like recommendations. I'll be seeing REVERE on Friday (Late n' Live stage, 8pm ) and filming them on my little camera, because they are paying for me to go and seeing my mates play Glasto will be AWESOME. All the good bands seem to be lumped in on Saturday, Massive Attack, Biffy Clyro, Elbow, Squarepusher and Battles are all must see's for me if possible. I think I'll be avoiding the main stage because it's arse gravy, but if people wanna skip through this list and help me out, well that'd be just dandy.

Nope, I'm not going. Not really keen on the creature comforts side of festival life: don't like to see bands playing outdoors if I have the choice (the acoustics are always crappy and it just feels less intimate), and I'm certainly no camper!
Ironically, my next gig coming up is Radiohead in a [dingy] park in Tower Hamlets this week, so I'm slumming it at an outdoors gig after all!

Oh, and Ryan, I hear that my perennial faves The Music might be at Glastonbury this year - their lead singer, Rob, says that they will be there (but not which stage and day/time they'll be on), although there's no official confirmation on the Glastonbury website to date, I believe. I'd strongly recommend catching them if a) they're playing, and b) you find out when/where they are at the festival. Out of all the gigs I have ever seen, they gave one of my top 3 ever performances; at the London Forum in 2004 (my other 2 are Hope Of The States at the Oxford Zodiac in 2003 [while Jimmi Lawrence was still alive ] and PRR at the Water Rats this year). They are a truly awesome live act (even their detractors in the music press usually concede this), and if they don't conflict with anything else you're looking forward to then I'd try and make the effort to find them. Hope you, BA and anyone else who is going all have a fantastic time. ;D

AHHHHH SO EXCITED. Thats about as much coherence as you're gonna get from me, off to Radiohead tomorrow then straight onto Somerset early Wednesday morning, doesn't get much sweeter than that! Just spending my day decanting rum into plastic bottles and stocking up on baby wipes!
I've been checking out The Music's new album recently, partly because you've been raving on about them Lawrie and also because I like the single but I've found the album a bit hit and miss...I'm certainly going to try and check them out at Glastonbury if possible though. The Massive Attack/Biffy clash is tricky but I think Massive Attack win this year...I've seen Biffy several times and never Massive Attack- it'll be a wrench knowing Biffy are rocking the John Peel at the same time though. I've seen Battles several times as well, which is why I think I'll see Hot Chip instead but I highly reccomend them!
Other bands I'm definatley heading to...Foals, can't wait to see them again. Sunday, I'll mostly be at The Park I think, Laura Marling, Mystery Jets, Caribou should be a good run....but its Glastonbury, who knows where the wind will take me. Also looking forward to a bit of electro goodness, especially Simian Mobile Disco DJing and Does It Offend You Yeah live.
Oh...and the forecast currently contains NOT A DROP of rain, fingers crossed!

Cool, i'll keep my eyes peeled for The Music then.
Massive Attack win that clash, I've seen Biffy a lot, but like you missing them headline the John Peel stage is pretty rough. Might hop between the two a little.
I'm so shit, I've not even nearly prepared. Off to see Sigur Ros tomorrow n'all. Dunno when we're heading down though, Thursday I think 'cos most of the band are working this week.

Not really Glastonbury-related, but since I mentioned it already earlier in this thread, I don't see the point in starting a new one just to say: I went to see Radiohead in Victoria Park last night, and aside from the atrocious decision to include House Of Cards (ugh - their worst song ever), they played a good show. Nowhere near career defining, but a very decent performance nonetheless. The gig for me was just completely ruined by the amount of seemingly non-music (let alone non-Radiohead) 'fans' at the gig. We were about halfway back in the crowd, and throughout the entirety of the show people were walking back and forth (not paying any attention to the band playing on stage) and chatting at various different volumes. I find that kind of thing annoying enough *in between* the songs, but this was going on all the time, even during the songs being played. It made me ****ing furious - why the hell would you pay the best part of £50 to get tickets to a band if you couldn't give a flying **** what the band you've paid to see are doing?! Those tossers would have had a cheaper night just going for a walk with Radiohead on their iPod - it's not like they would've been able to tell the difference! Sorry for a bit of a rant, and I know it happens to a greater or lesser extent at just about any gig, be it indoor or outdoor. Doesn't make it right though. It's put me off the idea of going to see some of the bigger bands I like live in future, purely because bigger bands have a higher proportion of casual fans at their gigs who are only really there for the 'event' and not all that interested in the music itself. What's certainly true is that I have no intention of going to see a 'big' band in a large outdoor gig again, unless it's somewhere like Wembley or summat where you can book a seat (not to sit down in, but it tends to stop people milling about so much) and not have to worry about being distracted from the music you've paid so much to see. And to all you legions of people out there (no one here, I trust! ) who pay to go to gigs and then just piss off other people by doing anything except watching the ****ing band - and the people who leave early at football matches, and the people who talk through films at the cinema - karma will get you back somehow and you'll get all the misery you deserve at some point in the future! Grrrr!!!

Grrrr!!! to be fair, there were so many free tickets given out by the council (I got 2! but didn't go). plus, Radiohead are fast becoming a corporate equivlent of an emo 'scene' band (people just go to the shows to look cool) it's frustrating, and infuriates me to no end, but it's the sad truth. speaking of Radiohead, I have the gold disc for Pablo Honey presented to Colin Greenwood hanging in my toilet.

speaking of Radiohead, I have the gold disc for Pablo Honey presented to Colin Greenwood hanging in my toilet. Yeah, it's all true what you say, and it's depressing that scenester non-fans are just a fact of life rather than something that you, I or anybody else can do anything to get rid of. Kinda makes a part of me hope that the smaller bands I like (like PRR and 65daysofstatic and such) don't ever make it big so that the 'glory hunters' don't ruin my experience of those bands. But then another [more rational] part of me wants the smaller bands to sell truck-loads of albums so that they get the recognition they deserve and - more importantly - make enough of a living out of their band to keep on making the music I love. It's a Catch 22 situation and there aren't any easy solutions... well, aside from an enforced ghetto round-up of all 'poser' music fans followed by a well-placed bit of biological warfare: I wouldn't have any objections to that... speaking of Radiohead, I have the gold disc for Pablo Honey presented to Colin Greenwood hanging in my toilet. You jammy git! But fair play for getting past his alarm system and guard dogs with your striped jersey and your Swag sack, I've never pulled it off myself...

Er, Carling Cup 2008...? *parties... then remembers it's the Carling Cup* In my life, I only remember seeing us lift the FA Cup vs Forest in 1991, the Worthington Cup vs Leicester in 1999 and the Carling Cup this year (wasn't really old enough to experience any of the Cups in the 1980's properly). Believe you're around the same-ish age as me (I'm 26) so you've probably seen us win the same set of trophies? A lot of clubs would kill for that haul (are you watching, Newcastle United?!), but yep, I agree it's not a life of glory being a Yid! As it happens, I actually wore my 07/08 away shirt with "King 26" on the back to Radiohead last night, felt good walking through some prime Hammers territory wearing my colours!

And I'm back with sunburn...pure awesomeness, saw some great bands and can't believe the weather! Massive Attack probably take the prize for most incredible set though, just flawless and generally breathtaking...Foals and Does it Offend You Yeah were both spot on too though, despite DIOYY being cut short thanks to what appeared to be their idiot of a manager...long story! Seeing a manager getting bottled by the crowd was quite amusing though, Glasto crowds really aren't ones to bottle people, they usually have better things to do but this guy deserved it. Couldn't find the Music, don't know if they played or not in the end? Main complaint this year was that there were WAY too many middle of the road, indie pop bands all over the two main stages...I know Glastonbury always has a few but this year it was reaching ridiculous levels, I couldn't avoid them despite purposely trying!!
As for Radiohead...they, of course, played brilliantly but the venue was poor...I couldn't see no matter where I stood (bar obviously if I'd got to the front I suppose) and for £50 odd quid a ticket, I found that pretty disappointing. I also expected when I bought that ticket that it would be like other bands who do those outdoor gigs and have at least a couple of pretty decent support acts but I wasn't especially impressed with just Bat for Lashes. All in all, I think they played well but it didn't live up to my expectations, or the cost...they should have just headlined Glasto instead!
I totally agree with Lawrie about not being in a hurry to see a big band in an outdoor venue again, I'm always disappointed so I don't know why I've done it so many times.

The Music didn't end up at Glastonbury in the end. Their lead singer Rob posted the following blog on Myspace about why they weren't there (I'm quoting it because it's a mildly interesting read): Glasto........ Im sat in bristol. We have almost finished a uk tour of our new album. I feel like the tour has been amazing and has got better with every show. Im in bristol cos there was a chance we might get a slot at Glasto if amy winehouse pulled out. Im just watching her perform now. It all feels a little unfair. Ive worked my socks off to get fit mentally and physically for this record and the irony of her singing Rehab like a dead person just makes me happy that im fit and well as oppose to being in her mess. Funny how life works. When we all are dust i can say at least i was doing what i believed. I do feel for her tho. She should go to rehab and get as far away as possible from the industry and that tool of a husband. We are strong and i know just how powerful this band is. We will go on regardless of what stands in our way. Nothing can break us. Love x

i've posted this elsewere, but works for here:
just back from Glastonbury. Elbow, Massive Attack and motherfucking Squarepusher were highlights of stuff I wasn't involved in, but VJing at Glastonbury will go down as one of the best things I've done ever. REVERE were totally on form, the visuals worked perfectly. Awesome. The Verve were wank (only saw from when the acoustic guitar came out though) lots of other stuff was good.
Thursday night though, i got soaked to the skin due to the stupidity in not having any waterproofs. i subsequently bought what is basically a big blue waterproof romper suit. i looked coooool Cool Saturday and Sunday were GLORIOUS though. Stunning weather. Wellies have killed me feet.
Good times though.
