Hope that one won't be cheesy overdone prog-metal like the last one... Oh and I just got Steven Wilson's Insurgentes, and in the sleeve was a tiny Kscope catalog announcing these upcoming albums : Pineaple Thief - 3000 Days and... Anekdoten - Chapters That flyer has caused much confusion over at The Pineapple Thief web site since it was originally going to be on th Dawn Raids EP, got withdrawn supposedly for the next album but is now appearing as a "coming soon" in the Kscope catalogue. It's supposed to be an amazingly good song and is now part of the live set but they haven't played it in the UK yet! Should get chance to hear it in Bristol on the 21st April - they're playing a warm-up for their Canadian gig at the Louisiana in Bristol. And I'll be at that canadian gig with my dad Too bad the set is probably going to be ultra-short, since it's some sort of festival and they're the last band of 3 playing that night... Oh well, I'll grab a copy of that Dawn Raids EP and probably a shirt at the same time. Really can't wait for the new Anekdoten...

At least you'll get to hear the new songs (3000 days and Preparation for Meltdown.) btw the latest blog by Bruce on The Pinepple Thief web site: www.pineapplethief.com/blog/explains the 3000 days flyer - 3000 days is going to be the title of a Compilation of their (now sold out) back catalogue to be released in the Summer.

Now actually, having said I don't really follow new releases, I'm quite excited about Depeche Mode's new offering coming out soon...

1) Hope Of The States - one of my favourite bands of all time Have you heard troubles? The album Wolf is pretty cool, especially if you are one of the many who hate Sam Herlihy's singing. Also, what does everyone think of the new Trail of Dead album? This is the first one of theirs I've ever heard and it rocked my socks off (especially Giants Causeway and Isis Unveiled).

Hi Alex, and welcome to the forums - haven't had a chance to say hello since you got in an avalanche of debut posts: well done, that's great going! ;D Yep, I try and keep up with Troubles and all the other post-HOTS projects the various members are involved in, and I bought Wolf last year. Have to say I found it slightly underwhelming: not bad at all, but not as revolutionary as I was maybe hoping for. I always quite liked Sam's voice even though it was kinda out of tune, but I preferred HOTS' experimental/post-rock side over their more indie numbers (Static In The Cities should so have been on The Lost Riots over the likes of 1776, and so on), so it's not like there should be anything stopping me getting into Troubles and/or Wolf. I dunno though, for some reason I think that what I've heard of Troubles is ok, but not even up to the levels of Thee Dust Rackets side-project stuff, let alone the glory moments like Black Dollar Bills and Static In The Cities etc. Fingers crossed that Troubles, Blocks, CERN and all the other HOTS related acts keep going in the future though!

Thanks for the welcome Lawrie, hope I haven't been too gobby since my arrival! Thought this might be a better place to vent my passions for PRR than with my sensibly, but not over, enthusiastic friends. Or complete strangers.
I agree with you about Sam's voice but I know some people (e.g. The Dark Fourth) who think Sam's voice ruins HOTS. They try and express this politely though, by enthusing about The Black Amnesias! I liked Wolf a lot; it's no Lost Riots but pretty cool and with some really uplifting stuff on it. I don't know that much about the other HOTS sideprojects (post-project probs more appropriate but I am ever-hopeful) but did see on forwardirektion.co.uk that there was an "as-yet-unnamed-band" WITH VOCALS, made up of most of the HOTS crew, that had recorded an album about a year ago. Any idea as to how that's going as you seem better informed on CERN, BLocks etc.?

Er, dunno. I just pop in to fowardirektion (and its forum) every now and then: Keir, the webmaster, is just about THE authority on HOTS and all related matters, so I always try and keep abreast of anything he has to say.
In terms of new bits and pieces, I hear there is a new Blocks record coming up soon-ish (not sure when though) but it's still a bit uncertain how Sam plans to distribute it. As regards to that other unnamed band with Sam, Simon and others, last I saw or heard of them was a couple of video blogs they did AGES ago on a Myspace profile or summat: to tell the truth it was so long ago (probably some time in 2007) that I can't remember hardly anything about it. As far as I know they still plan to do something, but where, when and how that will emerge is anyone's guess.

These lists are so incredibly organized. It makes me slightly afraid! I hear Imgoen Heap has a new one on the way, as do Mew...so they are keeping me fairly excitable for now. Imogen Heap I would just guess will release her new album around July based on her vblogs and twitter comments. Mew is expected in June. I got a whole list here. rateyourmusic.com/list/SoundscapeMN/2009_anticipation

Good list there. 2009 looks like a brilliant year for music after a poor '08. Muse, PT, Oceansize, Amplifier, Mars Volta etc ;D

Muse, PT, Oceansize, Amplifier, Mars Volta etc ;D Personally I had a brilliant 2008 with very strong albums from Panic Room, The Pineapple Thief, Pendragon, Opeth and Steven Wilson, among others I agree that 2009 is looking to be even better, though ;D
