Sorry to repeat myself but have changed my mind after an evening of using it, this DOES deserve it's own thread ;D For anyone who didn't catch the chat about it in the other thread... Soptify is a streaming, legal free music service that lets you just listen to, well...quite a large library of music, although it does have a few gaps. You usually need an invite but as its new, this link takes you straight to the sign up page...I'm just trying it and it does seem fairly impressive at first go, especially for trying new things to see if you like them, thought I'd share the link anyway in case anybody is interested: www.spotify.com/en/get-started/ And, as Ryan so brilliantly suggested...here is a link to a Forum playlist, add interesting things at will, anyone can add things to it/listen to it, I've put a few of the reccomendations from the other thread in to get us started. (Oh...and I've not put any PRR in, I'm kind of guessing we've already got that well embedded in our music collections! ;D)

I'm not sure you'l be able to get it in Canada... Hmm strange, not got time to look into it now but will do when I get home later. Might be me, it's not synchronizing playlists now. EDIT: it's an issue at their end, not mine. should be sorted soon.

Looks pretty awesome, but the link to the playlist took me to a page that said 'first click to confirm spotify' and then, having clicked this, it attempted to load the playlist on my spotify player thing, and couldn't ("playlist not found"...later "could not synchronise plalist...retrying")
I assume this is the same as what Ryan has....

According to the server, 'all systems are up and feeling jolly good' so maybe try it now? I'm new to this whole thing as well, not a clue....

Yup, I've got it now. Looks good. Do you know if you can upload tracks of your own, that they don't have in the database?

Aye, working.
And no, you can't. It's down to record label agreements and stuff. The beauty of this program is the artists get paid for you listening to them, just like on radio.

So I should put PRR on repeat?

So I should put PRR on repeat? A very good point in theory my friend but I can't see sony chucking an awful lot of that the band's way these days.

It won't be up to Sony, it'll be down to the PRS or some such body. As long as PRR are correctly set up they should earn the money in the same way they would through radio plays.

Is that how spotify works? I was under the impression that they paid the record labels and then it was up to them to distribute the money accordingly, but even better if it means the artists are getting paid properly!

I suppose you might be right really, I think that's how last.fm does it as well. I assumed because Spotify compared itself to radio it worked the same way, but perhaps not. Still, it should go to the band as part of royalties. I don't think the label would get away with holding the money. Especially as the band seem to own the rights to the album.
