I tailored my review a little at the end for the benefit of Glasswerk, as they were promoting the gig...in my MySpace I also said the following :
There is some applause from the audience, but nothing sustained, and people are already leaving - I wonder if there is a curfew, but am later told there is not. it is a bizarre end, and there is no encore. Talking with the band afterwards they said they did not want to come back for an encore because the audience reaction at the end did not make them feel it was wanted, and I entirely sympathise with them in that, but Reading what have you done ? This is a cutting edge band who produced a stunning set and you missed your chance for more.

Hmmm, interesting revelation there James, and the reaction of their 'home' crowd is as surprising as it is disappointing, especially as I heard that the likes of Southampton and Glasgow have both been complete sell-outs with crowds who were really up for it. Weird. Well, this means that I'll be cheerleading by myself if necessary to ensure that we get an encore tomorrow in Birmingham!

I think Chloe's little comment on the Southampton live bootleg that 'we've had a much better reception here than in our home town' shows that they were a little let down by the Reading crowd...strange really, reception has been good everywhere I've seen them.
I respect that though, I'm not a fan of the idea of encores for the sake of it and I really hate when I feel a crowd just expects an encore automatically.

I was well up for an encore but half the people in front of me (I was maybe 4 rows back) left as soon as the set finished and I was like, wtf? The place was half empty before I know what was what, so I couldn't start clapping for an encore without looking like a complete nong.

I gotta agree - Fair play! - I was at Reading I really didn't feel the crow reaction deserved an encore and I admire the band for not giving one. The band Greenslade had a song called Time to Dream with a lyric that went: My but you're heaven but I never do encores I think it's pretentious, pretending to end for applause I never saw them live so I don't know if they lived by that, but it's always stuck in my mind. Encores are bollox really, though many of the bands I see are of an age where they need a rest so I guess that's different!

From the Manch article: "'Deus ex Machina' got an enthusiastic reaction considering it would have been the first time many of the crowd had heard it. The steady marching beat riddled with croaking synth giving way to an air strike of heavy riffage provoked some slightly off putting, but well meaning, dancing from some of the more inebriated in the crowd."
That is almost certainly about me (I think BA can back that up!). I wasn't even drunk, cheeky git.

To be fair, anyone who refers to somebody dancing as 'slightly off putting' is a bit of a miserable git...

Well, "well meaning" is an unsually kind compliment for me, so I'm going to take it!

Hey, glad you liked the photos and hope others did too. I found these boards after seeing the traffic coming from here. I'm actually very new to gig photography but when my new lens arrived I figured PRR was a great way to start! Dingwalls was a good sized venue (though I must admit I hadn't realised their fanbase had already grown so much, really packing it out) which meant I could get up to the front and even around the side of the stage to get some decent shots. As for the gig itself: great and my first chance to hear the new stuff properly - the progression definitely makes more sense when you hear it live, I think. Couldn't say no to a signed digipak either...

They usually focus on my results, rather than the intentions behind them. Too much belgian tectonique is often a problem. But it works sooo well (IMO!) with GLoaming. If you're drunk.
