Not the best they've done, but I still like it overall and would rate it as around an 8/10 album. For me, I'd break the tracks down as:
Awesome - Undisclosed Desires, MK Ultra, all 3 Exogenesis tracks Good - Uprising, Resistance, I Belong To You Average - Unnatural Selection Poor - United States Of Eurasia, Guiding Light
So a bit of a mixed bag, but IMO there's still enough real quality there to result in a good album overall.

It's just not very Muse and still lacks focus. Ultimately they're losing their identity and all the "signature" sounds that they used to do well. It just about scrapes a 4/10 for me because there aren't any songs that I find disgusting on this (unlike BHAR...I'm looking at you, Starlight and Invincible...Eurasia comes pretty damn close though). I just feel that genre spanning is not what Muse do best and whilst progression is a good thing, they've not really progressed, more lazily meandered in several directions without really drawing them together properly. There's no motivation to listen to either TR or BHAR in one go because there's no underlying thread in the album, it's more of a collection of songs which happen to be on the same disc.

(Not too keen on Invincible though: that and Soldier's Poem are the weak points for me on what I think is an otherwise outstanding BH&R.)

In fact, I think the more times I try and listen to it, the less I like this album. Some of the 80's throwbacks here sound more like they are supposed to be a joke! I'm just hoping it'll sound at least slightly better live.... Oh wait, I've found a highlight...2:10 to 2:16 of MK Ultra is quite good.

(which I actually pretty much like - despite not being as good as ..Kites - 7/10 'decent' verdict for the new Mew for me) *puts tin hat on and ducks for cover* ;D

You can remove your tin hat sir, I shall just sit smugly in the knowledge that not all are as enlightened as me... If you must have it all in an easy to break down number format, I'd personally rate The Resistance about 3/10.

it's like an album full of Knights of Cydonia, without the heavy bit! Was thinking that when listening to Eurasia for the first time. I thought "oh god this is crap Queen knocking off, but at least they'll be a pay off.....or not." I'm going to risk life and limb by saying that while Queen can be uber-cheesy, they knew how to rock face more than the Muse present on this album. As for the album: Uprising is cool but for the AWFUL lyrics (goes for the whole album) and Doctor Who synths. Resistance is pretty catchy and likeable. Undisclosed Desires is awesome and surprisingly makes slap-bass cool. Bellamy said this would be the case but thought it might be a Kasabian-like boast which would be humiliating in practice. United States of Eurasia is TERRIBLE. Guiding Light (in the middle of the song) has this almost Guns 'n Roses / Bon Jovi feel about it. Not a good sound when they do it, let alone when aped. Unnatural Selection is poor apart from the awesome breakdown "droplets in the ocean" bit. That might be the standout section of the album. MK Ultra seems to me to be like a quite conventional early-Muse track, just not as good as those. Maybe a leftover idea. I belong to you is rubbish Exogenesis pt 1 sounds like a rockier version of Radiohead's Harry Patch tribute in parts. I like the Pt 2. of Exogenesis a lot but think that pt 1. is overlong and not that incredible and that they could have cut pt 3. Overall probably a 6/10. Some great peaks but some new lows. Certainly not as good as any of Muse's past albums (love every one and have had them all (bar Showbiz, though it is still good) as my fave at some point), which would all get 9/10 on a similar scale. They've always had ambition, which is what all the positive reviews are touting, but have lost some of the editing/control which has made such tight albums in the past. Overblown. Oh, and Mew's album is a stunner - much better than this. An 8 or 9/10 for sure. Only 1 or 2 average tracks on an album filled with 10 brilliant others. Even the first Intermezzo (28 seconds) is better than Eurasia! ;D Anyway, who's heard the new Frank Turner?

I think it's a great album. Not their best (that's Origin of Symmetry). People either love or hate this album it seems.

Whatever you think of the new album, the following is pretty damn funny: "Muse Pwn Italian TV Invited to do "Uprising" on Quelli Che Il Calcio, Muse was told they'd have to lip-sync. So Matt Bellamy switched places with drummer Dominic Howard, and bassist Christopher Wolstenholme "played" guitar and keys. Then lead singer Dominic was interviewed. www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oTt8Noi5Rk " Class!

Yeah, saw that the other day. Bellamy's amazing comedy drumming almost makes up for the awfulness of Eurasia. Almost.

This album really has split fans in two. I'm on the "like" side of the coin - I love the OTTness of Eurasia, I think IBTY is a brilliant off-beat pop song and that Exogenesis is up with Citizen Erased as one of their finest pieces of music.
It's nowhere near as good as OOS/Absolution but after the nightmare of BHAR, anything was gonna do and to be honest, it actually exceeded my expectations.
