Aside from PRR Mk II, what albums are people on tenterhooks for this year? For me, the one I'm most looking forward to is the new album from The Music. They're a band with truly massive potential, but their last album (Welcome To The North - 2004) suffered from the band going through some troubled times personally and resulted in a major case of Second Album Syndrome. They release their third album this summer, and from early live videos of their new material, they sound right back on form: it'll be between them and PRR for my album of 2008, I'm guessing. Some video links if you're interested (sound quality, especially in the bass range, is a wee bit wobbly, but still listenable): The Spike - www.youtube.com/watch?v=xP-t21eg9g0The Left Side (my favourite from the vids available) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps7Pv9opiwUNo Weapon Sharper Than A Will - www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-r-6xWovakGet Through It - www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgelQDE6g58Strength In Numbers - www.youtube.com/watch?v=msYXgbfeJ5cAlso really looking forward to new albums by Ladytron, Portishead and R.E.M. this year as well (though my R.E.M. anticipation is more grounded in many years of loving them, rather than the disappointing last album Around The Sun). Add to that I've already bought two fantastic albums from Sons And Daughters (This Gift) and The Mars Volta (The Bedlam In Goliath) so far this year, and 2008 certainly has the potential to be a great musical year for me - and definitely better than what I felt was a very poor 2007. Who are you ladies and gents eagerly anticipating new stuff from?

The ones I'm quite excited about are at the minute, mostly debuts...Does It Offend You, Yeah? and Foals being the two that are due pretty soon. Also looking forward to Portishead's latest offering and would have said Guillemots although the few bits I've heard really haven't sounded all that great. Also...bit of a plug because they are friends of mine but what the hell, another new debut coming out at the end of this month from a band called Device which I'm looking forward to...good solid rock music with some very nice harmonies. (You can check them out at www.myspace.com/deviceuk)

Ah you're a bad influence, I wasn't gonna do that, I wanted to wait for the CD release dates...I'm just gonna go with Foals for now, as I'm seeing them on Saturday and I like to know the songs... Give it a couple of days and I'm sure I'll be tempted into the others.

I think the Voltas Bedlam will take some beating...was anxious about it, as I adored Frances and took me to long really to get Amputech (except for the mighty tetragammon (sic), but bedlam is v accessible for TMV, and after seeing them at brixton recently (3 chuffing hours on stage!) it cemented it in my grey matter and golly...it'll take some shifting.
Last year was easily Oceansize's Frames by a huge country mile.

I was at the Brixton gig too - was absolutely amazed when I found out there was no support and then saw Omar and Cedric troupe out at 8.15: mammoth set! Though they're ridiculously talented musicians (and I mean *prodigious* natural talent), I did find that the extended improvs that they played on maybe two thirds of the setlist started to grate a wee bit after a while. I LOVED Omar's opening solo improv that they did for Roulette Dares, but by the time they hit *another* 10 minute improv on Cygnus Vismund Cygnus it had started to wear me a down a tad. Let's face it, a good deal of their recorded work is quite long and complex enough to show off their musical virtuosity, without having to chuck in an extra 20 minutes of the band competing to exhibit their technical skills on every song. Literally, at the end of the gig there was 20-odd minutes of stuff I didn't recognise, so I asked my mate whether they were still on Drunkship Of Lanterns: "Nah, don't think so," was his reply... only for the final chorus of DoL to kick in 30 seconds later! Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the show and some of the improv bits were mind-blowingly excellent, but I left with the impression that the best performances were the ones where they just stuck right with the album version of the song (e.g. Wax Simulacra, Tetragrammaton etc). A 7/10 gig for what should have been a 9/10 gig for me. On the other hand, the band really sold me on some of the later tracks on Bedlam: I'd gone in loving the first half of the album, but still struggling to 'get' the second half. Brixton turned that right around for me: Ouroborous and Agadez have gone from being murky songs that were hard work to get through, into being exuberant, punch-the-air anthems for me. So huge kudos to Omar and Cedric for that. PRR are up next for me, back of t'net!

rapidshare...umm err do you have to pay ive never worked it out !!! dahh any advice please...was trying to follow link above to Does it offend etc You don't have to pay to use Rapidshare (though you have to wait a certain amount of time between downloads if you're not a Premium member). You just click the download link, wait between 30 seconds and a couple of minutes (depending on the download size, and it will say how long), and then it gives you a 4-character passcode (to prevent spambots etc) that you have to type into the box provided. Do that, hit download, and Robert is your father's brother.

After all my getting all giddy about the prospect of The Music's album being released earlier in the year, it came out this week and was every bit as good as I expected. My album of 2008 so far by miles, and there have been some great albums released already in 2008. The Spike, The Left Side and The Last One (hmm, maybe a few too many "The's" in those song titles...) are all top, top quality, and it'll have to be a hell of an album to knock this off my top spot come the end of this year. I'd urge everyone to give them a listen if you get the time, can find samples of most of the album at: angryape.com/artists/the-music
