And it sounds like a big departure from TDT! Is it normal 4 bands to put up demos from coming soon albums like that?

Good spot, Sarah, very exciting to hear a taste of what the new stuff will sound like! *dances a little jig of happiness* I guess that part of the reason they have put these up might be due to Paul saying that they'll be playing some brand new songs that none of us have heard before at the Barfly gig - we're already familiar with Deus and Gloaming got played at the Water Rats, so maybe this sampler is just a little taster for us so we know which ones to expect at the Barfly? I think there might be 5 track samples on the player though: as I heard it, it seemed to contain: 1. Deus Ex Machina 2. ?? 3. Gloaming 4. ?? 5. ?? If Paul (or any of the band) drop by here, it'd be nice to know the titles of the samples put up on the Myspace player... *hint hint* ;D Out of the samples on there, my early impressions (after one listen-though) are that I like #2 and #4 the best early on, although they're all sounding pretty fantastic. Definitely agree with Sarah that what we've heard on there is a massive departure from the sound of The Dark Third, but it's a direction that I'm happy to see them go in, the new stuff is FUNKY! Anyhoo, great to hear a taster of how things are going in the studio, and this has put me back in "excited kid on Christmas Eve"-mode for the forthcoming Barfly gig and what new delights we're going to hear there! Wahoo!

I like that there's a very evident theme of love throughout the songs, different variations, but it still seems some cohesiveness like in The Dark Third is evident.
I liked it. Thank you.

This was a nice surprise when I took my first peek at MySpace today. After a few plays I can just agree with Lawrie. A departure all right, but there is no problem recognizing the band though - especially after listening to all the live stuff. Like the old PRR with 'an extra everything'. Nice warming up for 30/7 - you lucky bastards . I'm thinking about going to Spain this autumn - anyone else up for a little trip?? And Gloaming sounds real great!!

I aim to please mate!
by the way, Spurs have (apparently) now signed Arshavin AND Bentley.
I have word from an insider.

Ha ha, yeah I'd heard about those two (Bentley is pretty much nailed on IMO, but I'll wait till I see it on the official site before I get too excited about Arshavin!) - I spend far too much of my time perusing the various Eye Tee Kay that emerges from the ether of the various Spurs forums! Think I'd better create a general football thread like Ripley suggested, otherwise the two of us will be swamping all areas of these forums with all things Lilywhite (not that that'd be a bad thing in my book, but y'know... )

Sorry! This popped up at MySpace some minutes ago. I'm very sorry.... ..i had to take the last 2 samples down :-( We got into trouble, 'da management' didn't like us putting too much new stuff on the player. Ops... my bad. Hope you liked it while it lasted. The rest of the sampler will be up for a very short time. Get your listening in while you can! Paul. x And I'd love a football thread. then i get a proper chance to tell you how much better Liverpool are than... everybody else

Aw, that's a shame! At least Effigy Of My Love is still up there, but would've been nice to hear the other brand spanking new ones in the period between now and Album 2 being released. Seems a wee bit harsh by 'da management' in my opinion: I can completely understand that they might not want full-length versions of the new tracks up on the Myspace player, but I'm struggling to see what the problem is with some quick ~1 minute samples of a few tracks? Oh well, fair play to Paul for putting them up in the first place, and hope that he hasn't been made to stay behind and write 500 lines, or worse...!

It's simply brilliant. I don't think I've ever been disappointed by a prr release of any kind. Ever. Strange that.....
Shame I missed the last two....ah well, more to look forward to!

(Just to say in advance, my memories of the brief listens I had to samples #4 and #5 are exactly that, and may not properly reflect what they sounded like!)
The sample from #4 was the most minimalistic of all the 5 samples on there - the most prominent sound was a bass-y/synth-y riff with a Jon-only vocal on top. 'Twas the most funky of the 5 of them, IMO.
The sample from #5 (Disconnect, apparently) was a much more laid back, ambient affair, and it sounded like it had a fair few more musical elements layered in the mix - guitar, piano, synth, lots of drums and maybe electronic drum fills. Harmonic vocals as we've come to know and love. Sounded a little like a more 'electronic' version of Asleep Under Eiderdown, on early listens.
