I'm rooting for Arizona in the Super Bowl GET OUT! We'll have no discussion of that American wuss-ified rugby here, please... ;D As someone who plays both rugby and American Football, I find that offensive It's all well and good wearing body armour, but when you get hit in the back with it and you're not wearing a backplate, it hurts like hell. Basically, rugby hurts because it wears you down (I'm a flanker so I get around the park a lot and make a lot of tackles). But football hurts because of the speed you collide at. I'm a receiver in football, so if I take the ball over the middle, I'm likely to run full speed into a linebacker or a safety, and believe me, it's an unpleasant experience. Also, american football is one of the mos strategically brilliant games ever devised - I'm rugby born and bred, but the complexity and intricacy of american football is really fascinating. Anyways. As for the Superbowl, I'm supporting the Cardinals but the Steelers *should* win. I'm a diehard Denver Broncos fan, so I still haven't forgiven the Steelers from stealing our Superbowl in 2005. EDIT: you football supporters have absolutely NO business in labelling other sports as wussy by the way

So, tv evening yesterday... Saw bits of the friendly match of the Spurs against Barcelona. And of ajax against atletico madrid in the so called Amsterdam tournament. The Spurs match was slightly boring (1-1) , but what can one expect of a friendly game... ajax got (as always) a present from the referee (penalty), so that they didn't fail in their first home match (3-3).
Edit: tomorrow Spurs vs. Celtic. Could this be an enjoyable one?

First day of the 09/10 English football league season. Agrajag, if you're reading mate, I truly feel for you - 0-5 down at home in a new league after being relegated last year, and it's not even half time yet... doesn't inspire confidence...

There'll be 2 more AZ fans round these parts that night, dutch - I'm sure nekroman will be joining me in supporting Anyone Who Plays Against Arsenal! (And, btw, your sentiments about them being the only French Premier League side are more than welcome...) Is it your boys who have just signed that Swedish fella Rasmus Elm? Think Everton were supposed to have been interested in him, but he signed for AZ... I think?! Anyway, he looked really good at the recent U21 Championships for Sweden, so if it was AZ who signed him then you've done yourself a nice little deal there.

Yep, we signed Elm. Maybe because his brother Victor is playing for Dutch side Heerenveen. Anyhow, lots of bigger clubs (premier league, Serie a, Bundesliga) were after him as well, so this is really a job well done. Edit: And, of course, if the Spurs play against that club from Amsterdam, I'll be supporting the Spurs

Lawrie, I guess today hasn't been a very good footbal day for you ... This Wednesday AZ is playing Arsenal but my hopes aren't very high. AZ is in a bit of a crisis, especially after loosing 4-2 to ajax at home last week. Coming week, a couple of thousand nice people from Alkmaar are coming to London to see the game in the stadium or in the pub .

*blows dust off thread* United having a bit of a lucky season, I hope that when Hargreaves gets back from injury he can stabilise the midfield in Europe like he did 2 years ago.
