I don't think we have a general gigs thread yet... maybe there's no call for one. We shall see.
I'll start.
On Monday I saw Metallica at the London O2. It was five pounds and they played Master Of Puppets. That's pretty much all that needs to be said. Because of those two things it was amazing.
Tonight I saw Pelican & Torche co-headlining at the Underworld in Camden.
Torche were on first and were amazing. I'd not heard any of their stuff but had heard good things, they didn't disappoint. It was all massive stoner metal-esque riffs with an odd pop sensibility about things. It was also fantastically loud, and they had an amazing bass tone. I bought the album, and while on first listen I was a bit under-whelmed I expect with more listens (and volumes) it'll be a grower.
Pelican followed and sort of struggled I though. Firstly, Torche made them seem really quiet. They didn't have an amazing sound either, the guitar that does a lot of the riffing was really low in the mix a lot of the time, so it wasn't as heavy as it could have been. Picked up towards the end though and both 'Last Day Of Winter' and 'Pink Mammoth' sounded exactly like they should have. I also bought the new split with These Arms Are Snakes on CD, which is brilliant.
My next big planned gigs are the three night Oceansize fest in October I think, other then a few bits with REVERE.
