I don't really think a proper website is that essential anymore though, it would only pool the information on myspace/facebook/twitter I disagree. I think the general perception of MySpaz is very poor, due to so many sites being done in the HTML equivalent of crayon (which is not to suggest the PRR site is one of them). The danger is that people perceive your lack of a 'proper' website as amateurism/cost cutting. That may not be the reason for PRR's not wanting their own website, but again, I'm talking generally. It's fine to have a MySpaz but it should be backing up a proper dedicated website, in my opinion, even if it does, as you say, only pool the information from other sources.

I've got to say I disagree, if I ever want to know anything about a band, no matter their budget or level or success, I go look for a MySpace. Guess there is a bit of each to their own coming into play here- nobody respects MySpace for anything except the platform it offers bands, haven't logged into my own account for months!

I agree that MySpace looks awful, and it's functionality is crap. It's easily replaced by a simple website with SoundCloud links and a blog, but as BA says a lot of people still go there first. 'Industry' still seem to value it pretty highly as well. I don't think there is a perception that using MySpace over a proper site is cost cutting anymore either. Social network management is a big job, and spreading all these little bits of information around is cool for those that want EVERY detail, everyone else just gets the main stuff from one place.
I'd rather see a proper site, but I just don't think it's essential. You could spend a lot of time and money putting a really nice site together only for people not to use it. I know people that have done exactly that in fact.

A proper site can work really well. Normally, when i'm linking people to a band, i'll use their myspace + website. But, for example, there is one band I like, Battle Circus, who have their own website. Their site is far more functional than a myspace page... you can get all the information you need, and they stream all their music. I have never visited their myspace, and I always link people to their site.
They are far less known than PRR, but they have a TLD and a fully functional website...

Of course, of course. MySpace has a useful specific purpose. You can cover that AND out do it with a website. What's debatable is the worth of spending a lot of money on doing it (and you can spend a LOT of money). I've been fortunate in that my brother is a genius and has coded a lot of £ worth of site for a greatly reduced price, but if you don't have someone like that to hand MySpace is a viable alternative still I think.

Can't you get your clever brother to knock 'em up a cheap website then? (He's not called Kevin by any chance?

Define cheap! He's done it for me and the band I've work with ('with' as opposed to 'for'!) for the last 5 years, which is why it's been cheaper then normal!
He's not called Kevin, no! Why?

Isn't everyone really clever called Kevin? The best kind of cheap is free, I'll bet there are people on this very forum who could knock up a really good website with just a few hours' work. It can't be THAT hard.

Oooh I don't know about that. This forum is proboards and therefore all pretty much formatted and designed already, all you have to do is work on the settings but it still took a good few hours work to set up initially. You also can't just leave a website sitting, it has to be maintained on a very regular basis.
Unless someone is a trained web designer, you'd only end up with a shoddy looking site and there's little point in that, they'd be better off just with MySpace in that instance.

Depends what you want the site to do and have on it innit.
Actually, the hard part is the design.

Yeah, making a functional site isn't too hard once you know a few languages. But, the hard part is making it look good. You could spend weeks or months doing that...

All this said, given the very professional reskin of MySpace, I genuinely think it may only a matter of time beore the band put a proper website up.

Oh my god, that's stupid! I just visited the web page of Knust Hamburg. That's the venue PRR will play next month. There is an article about the band and two links. One links to Myspace (correct) and the other one is www.purereasonrevolution.com/
