I can't afford to buy a PS3 for this! But, I've always wanted to go to Europe... Halve-sies? If I had the money mate... But to stoke the PRR fires, a new review has been posted on Whiperin And Hollerin ( www.whisperinandhollerin.com/reviews/review.asp?id=7442). They give the album 8/10, saying PRR are still charting their own course, and it sounds great. It certainly seems like a heavier album than before, which would of course fit the world war one concept they're going for. Edit: Beaten by a nose, by mhx.

That's certainly the best-written, most accurate and most thoughtful review I've ever seen anyone do for PRR. And that sentence isn't completely ridiculous if you remvoe the last 4 words, although it would be overegging. I agree with him in that Patriarch for me is a little bit weak (I see it as sort of sub-dark third stuff really), but I actually really like Never Divide. Not going to say much more because obviously pre-release date, but just wondered if anyone agreed about the quality of the review as a piece of writing and an analysis of what PRR *do* and how they are seen, and why it is they aren't big? Good stuff, and intrigued if anyone has links to equally thoughtful reviews of this album and others by PRR?

Yeah, totally. Most reviews seem to name check the prog connection, then talk about how they've moved over to a more electronic sound and from there, skirt over or around a few comments about specific songs.
This review really had a good look at what the band are doing and seemed to go much deeper into what they liked/didn't with the album. It was a really good critique and as you say, was very nicely written, with lots of visceral imagery used to describe the sound and mood of the songs.

Good stuff, and intrigued if anyone has links to equally thoughtful reviews of this album and others by PRR? I seem to remember an old thread with loads of links to interviews/reviews/other press stuff for AVO. Have a check in the archives. There's not been much by way of press for H&A *...yet...* Though there was that love shack baby review that came with the Patriarch download. That's certainly the best-written, most accurate and most thoughtful review I've ever seen anyone do for PRR. Sigh...you music journalist types....the more I read the more I think it's a waste of time. I mean, this article's good I suppose, in terms of being a fairly accurate description of (one person's opinion of) the album. But I still don't know what it sounds like from reading the words on the page. Describing music is a hopeless task from the start. Also, why is so much music journalism prose so convoluted!!? In any other genre it would be condemned as over-the-top and obnoxious. </bored rant>

Yeah, I didn't think it was great. If I'd not heard the record, I wouldn't have a good idea of what it sounds like off the back of that.
It's obviously enthusiastic which is really really nice, and that does help a lot, but it's over complicating things.

I keep getting an "on hold" message when I click the link. I thought it might be my ipod/it's browser, but it isn't working on anything. In fact, it happens when I try an access any page on their site... Anyone else have this problem?

How do the release dates actually work? I ordered from amazon uk, but I live in New Zealand. Will they ship on the 18th or the 25th?

Just realised there is no TDT on the DVD... Hopefully we can see our first (official) live footage of TDT on the Scala DVD...
