Now that's an interesting concept for a band...marketing, sales, performances and don't piss the fans off too much..... It'll never catch on................. Er, a little unsure of what point you're making...? Sarcasm? Genuine agreement? I'm not sure either way. Anyway, I don't think I was trying to post anything revolutionary (pun not intended) above, just saying that I think if PRR are looking to broaden their fanbase by presenting a more 'accessible' media image, then IMO that can only be a good thing.

As a woman I shouldnt say this but chloe does sell the band quite alot. There cant be 2 many girls in prog, or electro, out there. Also, the boys in the band have been madeover alot. I am suprised nobody has commented on this. Def a more commercial look. This makes them more friendly 4 the mainstream. Not quite boyband (with a girl) but definitely more trendy. lol.

I think the point he was trying to make is it's things the band don't do but but should do.

I'm not sure if madeover is quite the right word, just because it has implications that someone else decided to get their hair cut etc. I'm sure that Jon and Paul's 'new' haircuts were made because they themselves felt like a change, and not because someone told them that they'd sell more records if they did. That said, I don't think it'll do them any harm now that Jon's lost the Cobain-style grunger locks etc, but I'm sure they did it because that's what they wanted to do. (PS - I am the last person on earth who should be dishing out sartorial advice to anyone - my idea of style begins and ends with TV's David Mitchell... )

LOL. I didnt mean someone made them do it! but i do think people get influenced by a bands image and the scraggly grunge hair was a turn off as it linked PRR more 2 a not commercial genre! But still, The Darkness did alright didn't they?

Yeah, get what you were saying, I was just being a pedant and picking up on the word "madeover". ;D
But yeah, as it happens - and even with my complete lack of understanding as to what is in fashion and what isn't in fashion - I agree that in terms of making the band appeal to a more mainstream audience, Jon losing the 'grunge' look and Paul getting his hair cut shorter will probably make it that much easier for potential new fans to give them a second look. Once they have people's attention for a brief moment, I believe that their music (as it is now, with no alterations to make it more 'user friendly') has enough hooks and catchiness in it to speak for itself, even to mainstream audiences.

Ah - I'm gonna just send this bullet train on the same tracks but on a collision course here: I don't think the length of their hair has anything to do with anything but comfort. People get haircuts. People with long hair, myself included get haircuts especially during the summer time and then they let it grow back. Heh, I suddenly feel so ridiculous discussing this.
Here's a thought: I don't think it's up to a band to define themselves as a band loyal to a particular genre. If they say they're prog, well, that's fine, good for them. But I rather think those kind of labels are designated by the culture which the band attracts the attention of - the outer culture around the band defines what they are by reflecting on what they're doing at the moment. ...I don't think Kurt Cobain ever called his band a grunge band. If PRR release a prog record, then they're a prog band for some time. Then they may release a techno record, and there you have it - a rock-techno band. Even that line of thinking is way too restrictive, cause potential fans are going to be discouraged, and old fans are going to be dismayed. ...ahh, I'm rambling. Tell me if this is making any sense.

Exactly. Genres are for losers. Like that "electro-prog" term you coined somewhere else on here? Ha ha, just breaking your balls, mate! ;D

Genres aren't for losers, genre-restricted tastes are.

No no no, denial always ends up just looking silly.
I think the fans should call it what they want to call it, and the band should care less, I guess.

Woah! So I'm siting here blankly refreshing web pages while I wait for my laundry to run through its cycle - and I just remembered my dream last night. It seems PRR were playing a concert of some sort at a school, my school I suppose, in the gymnasium. It's going well, the concert is great, even though it appears to be played only for me and a handful of friends. So after the show, the guys in the band are packing up their equipment, and Chloe comes over to chat with the group. For some odd reason I jump down from the bleacher, which is comically high, exaggerated as some things are in dreams... do I jump down to talk to her? No, not quite. I wrap her in my arms and right out kiss her, out of the blue. Afterwards, she kind of smiled, and said something like - "that's quite enough," passed me by, and went on to chat with my friends as I looked back at them wondering what came over me.
Odd thing is - I haven't been listening to PRR very much recently. Been exploring other new music. I haven't been thinking about them, of her, for that matter. I don't consciously think about situations like that in the dream during the day. I'm usually much too busy anyway to fantasize. So I'm left here wondering where in the world that dream came from. Oh well.
Haha, f'ing odd.
