(...) and were called back for another encore, so played Deus Ex Machina again (...) Wasn't that because somebody accidentally started the backing track for DEM? And concerning Superball, I've just noticed they're also the label behind Oceansize (or at least the album Frames)

As I say, I'm not saying it as cast iron fact, it's just one of those things I swear I read somewhere. They played it twice in Belgium too, but I think that was because we weren't letting them go home until they did

They've played Deus twice twice I believe. Or maybe thrice. The first time was at the Barfly when it was accidental (the backing track was put on instead of TIC or something) and the second time was in Germany (possibly for the Rockplast thing) which is the time when Chloe said it was because it would be the first single, according to an article someone wrote about that gig. And the third time, I think, was in Belgium when they wanted to hear the Sex Machine song again.
And yes, Superball do Oceansize and Trail of Dead, if you know them. Oceansize's 07 album Frames was released in a fairly similar way to AVO, I think, with the album art appearing first on a tour poster and with the first single coming after the album.

You're right about the album art off the tour poster (although it wasn't the proper art as such rather one of the illustrations, the one that ended up on the CD/DVD box). We had the edit of Unfamiliar before the album was out though.

I thought it was the Netherlands that called it Sex Machine?
I really do think they should call it that though. It's not too late...

Oh God yes! It's not like they haven't got enough Latin without it. And if there's sodomy in the lyrics like someone thought, then why not?

I would just like to point out that AVO is already no 92 in play.com's pre-order chart. Now while this may not be massively high, the fact that its in there impresses me greatly!!

I just want to turn them into a band of filth. As for the the pre-order position on Play.com, I think this is great news. For a band that can still be considered as underground, the fact they've made the charts, no matter where, is a wonderful achievement.

Nice to hear good things about the (as yet) unheard tracks. It's nice to see they've broken into Play's pre-order chart too. I mean as much as I love 'em, they're still quite a niche band on a niche label. I wonder how far along AVO will carry them on the road to success.

Great review, though I resent the comparison with Deftones and Kasabian.....

Awesome. We can talk about the album now. Thanks!
Upon first listen, I was really taken aback by how electronic it was. I had known that it was the direction they were heading for this, but I didn't know it would be so much.
But after my initial shock wore off, and countless spins, I can say that this album is absolutely incredible. While I don't think any song reaches the heights of Deus Ex Machina, I'd say that Apogee and The Gloaming come close, and the rest of the album is quite consistent. It really is fantastic all the way through.
It seems that the one song getting a little bit of a negative reaction is Disconnect, which I guess I can understand. After all, when you first start listening, you think you are hearing something from Kraftwerk instead. But the vocals kick in, and it really takes off, in my opinion.
And I love the ending to the whole thing.
So there's a first, quick, rambling post...
