On other notes...listening to this set in a sober manner, unlike last Saturday...Paul's drumming sounds ace, really noticeably tight I think. Gloaming definately sounds promising, it reminds me of Cupid when it was new in the set, you can hear where the edges need polishing but for a live deubt you can't really fault it too much. Deus has probably become the hit of the set so thats gotta be a positive but, does Jon GENUINLEY say 'welcome to the machine' at the start of it? Hahaha, how did I miss that?!

Ha ha, I caught that at the time - who knows, this may be the start of regular Sam Herlihy-like banter from the band in their future live sets? TBAOM sounds much more 'trippy' than I've heard it played in the past, and I think Jamie snuck in some cool little lead guitar work in the spacey instrumental part between the first and second 'vocal' parts. Deus was definitely the best song of the set, just absolutely mindblowing! It's so powerful, just made for wreaking carnage on venues everywhere! Agree with BA's assessment of Gloaming, pretty much what I think about it. For some reason it seemed to last longer when I heard it on the night than it does on this recording - weird. Really like the (multiple) parts of it where the instruments drop off and there is a line or two of acapella vocals from the various band members, and also the synth at the end (to nick Ryan's perfect description!) is built to destroy dancefloors! Am gagging to hear the studio version of this one... but then I could say that about any Album #2 track...

As for Gloaming...I was worried on the day that it isn't real PRR to me, with the lack of big guitar riffs etc but I've realised since that yes, so they aren't there in this track, but the vocals in this track are what keep it essentially PRR. If you listen to the harmonies on that live track and the lush melodies, I can't fail but notice that really nice PRR sound that I've always loved, that stems from all those harmony based influences they've always gone on about.
And one more thing I think we should note...'These are happy times for us.' Makes a nice bloody change, maybe we can all stop complaining for a little while! Here's hoping the rest of the year carries on in the same way!

Here's hoping the rest of the year carries on in the same way! Here here! I've never seen the band look like they were enjoying themselves so much on stage before, and it was great. In a way it was a little like a football game where your team are really on form, but the crowd are well up for it as well - you can't really tell if it's the team (or band, in this case) playing so well that it lifts the crowd, or if the crowd are so excited that it lifts the team to play better. In reality it was probably a little from column A and a little from column B, but whatever the reason, the result was just a tremendous gig, and long may PRR looking that happy to be on stage continue!

Jeez, why did that person bother showing up at all?! I'll never knock anyone for not liking PRR, that's their own decision and their own taste and while I don't agree with them they are entitled to like and dislike who they please.
But this lady/gent went along to a gig when they were clearly pre-disposed to not liking PRR before they got there (thought that was abundantly clear that it wasn't just on the Water Rats performance that they were bashing the band). In that case, why go at all?! They arrived too late to see most of Vessels by their own admission, so they were clearly only really there to see PRR. And if you're deliberately going to see a band you're set up to not like before you leave the house, then any review of the actual merits of a gig is a bit pointless really. A bit like if I went to review a Hard-Fi/Nickelback/Killers gig - they'd only ever be getting a shit review from me because I'd go in there hating them from the start, and as a consequence my review would be pretty worthless to describe the show they played.
This person's obviously got a big PRR-sized chip on their shoulder, and the evidence of loads of happy faces and positive reviews from just about everyone else who went to the Water Rats tells the real story of how it was that night.

I don't reckon he was there. He could easily have got all that information from this forum, and just made up the review. He would have been killed if he'd turned up, and nobody saw him, as far as I'm aware. It's just part of his pathetic crusade to destroy PRR by inane attacks like this.

He seemed to know the tunes though.
Such an unfair critasism about the sound though. Anyone who's been there knows it's ALWAYS like that.

He/she would have been instantly recognisable by the massive chip on the shoulder unless they had to leave it in the cloakroom

He seemed to know the tunes though. No: the point is he didn't. He said about Deus that it deserved kudos for making lots of stuff rhyme with Machina. That clearly isn't true: there aren't any rhymes in the song. He's making stuff up. Besides, he could have just heard it all on the bootleg. I'm almost certain this is the same guy who's responsible for ALL the anti PRR stuff, and that guy is well known to the band and several fans who were at the gig. He would have been seen.

What kind of ridiculous way to review a band is that? I didn't bother reading the negative review, but this makes it sound like it was written by some hormonally challenged, pissed-off, insecure adolescent. Anyway... thanks for all those who went to the show and came back here to share all with the rest of us.

well, seemingly he doesn't have a massive appreciation for PRR, and he posts on Drowned in Sound. not exactly a reputable source for music reviews is it? Maybe he was there, there's no real evidence to say he wasn't?
either way, moaning about someone who is moaning about a band you like just makes you seem kind of pathetic. shall we just move on now?

Am I answering you questions or am I "moving on"? I'll answer your questions. This is a PRR forum so I feel perfectly entitled to discuss someone who is moaning about the band. I am certainly not moaning about him, he just seems rather bizzare and worthy of comment.
Right, well as far as I can tell, there is only one person out there who has a grudge against PRR. Think about it: would a band like this really drive more than one person to a frantic dedication to PRR-sabotage? No. This is the same guy who hacked the myspace, froze the band's bank account, caused all kinds of legal troubles, stole Jon's emails, vandalised the wikipedia, has received official police warnings and threatened me on this very forum shortly before the gig. There can't possibly be two of them. I had chats with band members and the manager at the Water Rats about him, and I don't know how much I can say, but suffice to say he has a personal grudge against the band for something that happened a long time ago. The band all know what he looks like, and I thought (from previous comments) that nekroman did too. I also know what he looks like, but admittedly I didn't find out till after the gig. God knows what he hopes to achieve in his one-man crusade, but according to Jonathan it'll either get much better or much worse from now on.

Whoever it is sounds a real super-crook, top-class computer hacker, financial wizz and international saboteur who stays one step away from the law and with a fatwah on his head. Bit like the Pink Panther really.
You are seriously neurotic, mate.
