Well I can become a vampire freak! I'd take that over single arabs any day!!

Mine are all comparatively boring...I feel a bit left out really...'message board search' doesn't seem quite as exciting as vampires and arabs!

I'm Rob, 20, I do chemistry at Oxford and live in Amersham (very end of the Met line, Northwest of London). I've played bass for almost 5 years and plan to tour somewhere after I graduate. if someone will take me. Or if I've actually gotten a band together properly by that point. Other than that I play rugby and I'm going to try out for the Oxford American Football team next year even though I do have a degree to do in the mean time. I am an avid supporter of Northampton Saints and the Denver Broncos.
I spend most of my life daydreaming. Or watching Diagnosis Murder. Whichever happens to be on.

Hey, I did that too! Matriculated 2000, graduated 2004. What college are you at? I was a Catz boy (Peter Battle and John Foord were the main two lecturers there), wonder how much has changed in the 4 years since I left?
It's a small world! ;D

Tis indeed I'm at Exeter and I know Peter Battle. He's a bit of a legend, what with his inability to write and lecture at the same time my senior tutor's Simon Clarke, the other two don't lecture as far as I know. Oh, and John Brown used to be my senior tutor but he's retired now. Not much has changed though, Groutty still does the maths course, Steve Davies is still exceedingly rich. I guess the only difference might be the CRL. The next Vice-Chancellor's a chemist though which could be a good thing.

Knew one or two Exeter chemists but (presuming you're about to go into your 3rd year if you're 20) they would've left a year or two before you joined like I did, don't think any of them stuck around for DPhils. Don't remember much about Clarke (remembered the person but not the subject; he looks like an Inorganic chap on his website and I was absolutely chuffing useless at Inorganic and Physical!) and knew John Brown of course (think he might've even been on the panel for my viva). Glad to hear Grout is still doing the maths - I'd totally forgotten he existed, but good to know all the 1st years still get Father Christmas teaching them maths! With the CRL, it was finished halfway through the year that I left, and as I did an Organic Part II (in the Fairbanks group), we moved from the DP to the CRL at New Year of my final year, and were the first people to get our grubby mitts on the brand new shiny CRL: haha! If I guessed right about you starting your 3rd year this year, good luck with Finals: they're well easy and not at all dangerously stressful... <chuckles> ;D EDIT - didn't realise we had censorship software on the boards, my use of "<chuckles>" in the last paragraph was originally "<sreggins>" (backwards), but it seems that I can't use an innocent word like "sreggins" (backwards) without it being changed automatically to "sblack person"...

Could have sworn I'd turned all that censorship rubbish off...(excuse the pun...!)

I think my organic tutor graduated the year after you. Scottish guy called Kenny Ling (New College). I heard he's one of the best chemists to come through Oxford recently and he's a great tutor. Pretty longshot that you'd know him, but it's always worth a name drop. By the way my old senior tutor was John Brown from Physical (quantum, massive hands), not the Organic John Brown. Just in case you were thinking the wrong one! Fairbanks' group? Was that before or after the infamous Ben Davis incident? I kind of feel bad for the guy...Davis is an utter cock (although a damn good lecturer). I'm going to start thinking about my part II group soon. I'm very much an Organic chemist but I'm also pretty good at inorganic. I'm thinking about doing something biological (I get so much shit for that ) but I'm not sure whether I'll opt for something pharmaceutical or bioinorganic yet.

Didn't know Kenny Ling, I'm afraid - I was anti-social enough with most of the chemists in my own year, let alone with ones above and below me! And you're very right, I *was* thinking of the wrong John Brown: probably my brain trying to purge the memories of how shit I was at both Inorganic and Physical Chemistry! Is there a specific Ben Davis incident that's worthy of mention above and beyond the multitude of others? I've heard some funny/disturbing stories about some of the stuff that he and Fez have gotten up to over the years, but none stand out in my mind enough to be deemed with a "THAT incident" tag: do tell! And there are only two reasons to do an Organic Part II: 1) you're so bad at Inorganic and Physical that you have no option but to go Organic (my reason!); and 2) you really, REALLY like column-ing. For 12 hours a day. 6 or 7 days a week. Though anything with a biological/biochemical slant (like you're thinking of) doesn't count as a real man's Part II: that puts you in the realm of those dirty biochemists, what with their fuzzy science of approximations... and their awesome, cheap and delicious baguettes from the top floor of the Biochemistry building: jammy bastards!

I know about 20 chemists in my year so I'm not doing too badly. I don't know why the years always seem so cleanly divided between reclusive and outgoing. Chemists. Well, what I heard from my tutor was the time when Fairbanks went away on holiday for about a month. When he returned he found that not only had Davis stolen his research group, but he had also decided to steal his wife. So they don't really like each other very much. I've heard a lot of stories about him though. Like the Jesus College chemists dinner where Fairbanks ended up standing outside one of the chemist's rooms shouting "Don't you dare shag her, Davis!" I think the Bio stuff I'm doing is sufficiently chemical to be done in the ICL/CRL. It's not hardcore biochem. So no tasty baguettes unfortunately. I'm a bit apprehensive about doing an purely organic part II because I've heard that it's a little repetitive. Plus I want to have something resembling a life in the meantime...

I'm Rich. 37 years-old and feel incredibly old at this precise moment in time. Hah, I can top that. I'm 39 but am not a bald old acoountant. First heard PRR on aol progressive rock channel (US version) and have collected music of theirs ever since starting with Cautionary and then the LP. I have liked various Prog AND Rock bands over the years, though the 90's was dead to me musically. Big fan originally of Genesis/Yes/Rush/Blue Oyster Cult though I can barely stand to listen to their stuff now because modern experimental rock is so much better. Play the guitar in my spare time. Check out my profile on www.myspace.com/warrensutherland and add me as a friend. Have tickets for March 2009 in Glasgow, maybe see you there.

Evening everyone, how you doing?! Good...
I'm David, I live in South Lincolnshire (No, thats not near London!) I'm 26, and I work for Travelodge...(Someone has too!)
I see all these big university courses on here! But fraid all I can manage is a BTEC Nat diploma in Media Productions, done at Boston College. Hopefully going to be working for Network Rail early next year.
My Dad introduced me to Rush/Marillion/Yes/Genesis and Metallica.... yes... Read about PRR in Classic Rock magazine afew years ago so went along to the Unsigned Rock gig in Tufnell Park and I was hooked! So much that I made a trip to Berlin to see them!
Someone above me mentioned that they couldn't listen to old school prog like Rush/Genesis etc because modern music is better... oh dear, how wrong is that?! There are so many bands going around saying their so great just because they've got 800 myspace fans!
Can you honestly believe we'll be talking about a 'well known' modern band like Muse (oh dear) in another twenty years?...
I love going to gigs, Suppose thats not a suprise on this site! My first gig was the Spice Girls...yep...then my second was Black Sabbath... I'm a big film fan too, I'll watch anything with Tim Robbins or Nicolas Cage in.
I'm a big footy fan too, I'm an Evertonian, (I believe we beat Tottenham afew weeks ago..) Went to the game against Villa last weekend, try to go to as many games as possible but its a heck of a treck across the pennines!
I play the drums badly, had about a year of lessons but he left so trying to teach myself, buts thats not easy! Got a small Mapex Mars Series.
See you guys on PRR's tour next year!
