That graph could be the nerdiest thing I've ever seen... Wow, if that's the nerdiest thing you've ever seen, I think I've got something more up my sleeve. Yup, it sounds a little like "giant biscuit" if you want to hear that. But I think hear "try and disconnect" -- "gi (try) - ant (and) - bis (dis) - cuit (connect)".

So, here's how the individual songs have developed for me... (Mmmh, the forum software doesn't seem to like Google Charts URIs.) Anyway, I found that the songs have developed quite differently. Good thing is that none of them is getting worse. After the first listen I was kinda shocked: This was sooo different! I instantly liked Apogee and AVO, though, and Malheurs was just too good after a few repetitions. I didn't quite like the new Cupid mix at first. I was too used to the single version. This changed dramatically after I took the time to work through the lyrics, and I must admit that the new mix is much more appropriate. Gloaming was just boring to me. I don't know what exactly they did to my brain at the live show, but I was really into Gloaming after that. Meanwhile I'm even getting used to Disconnect, although the first minute is still hard. It's getting much better after that.

So pretty much exactly the touring set, minus Gloaming which I feel was a good choice...if something had to go I think that was quite a good one to choose, Noooo! Actually, the live performance of this song was exactly what got me into it sooo much that it's almost become my favourite song on AVO. Yessss!

So I went to cinema last night. As usual, about 90% of the movies shown were obvious crap, so I was left with only "Defiance" and "Radio Rock Revolution". After having been flashed for the first time in years on my way to the cinema and being slightly pissed off, I decided that "Defiance" would probably not change my mood for the better.
Interestingly, most of the few tens of people to see RRR were younger than me. Anyway, while certainly not the best comedy movie ever shot, I found it quite entertaining. I think they would've been better off not trying to make the government scenes funny by hook or by crook. Not a movie that you need to see a second time (except for checking how many of the albums shown in the end titles you own), but one that leaves you in a good mood. Oh, and Rhys Ifans was constantly reminding me of David Eugene Edwards.
As for my favourite movies, nothing's ever going to beat "Das Boot", I guess. "V For Vendetta", "Amélie", "Fight Club" and "Wargames" are pretty close, though. Outside of that Top 5, the list would certainly include "American Beauty", "Big Fish", "Dark City", "Dogma", "The Game", "Insider", "Kill Bill", "Léon", "Memento", "Office Space", "Saw", "Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow" and "Walk The Line". "Wargames" and "Office Space" obviously have a geek bonus here. ;D

IQ's Frequency is due to be released soon (May 22nd in Germany, June 2nd in the UK, mmmh, funny). But the band appears to be shipping pre-ordered CDs as of next Tuesday.

I just found out today that two members of one of my favourite bands, Sieges Even, have formed a new band called Subsignal, and that an album is due to be released this summer. Sieges Even unfortunately split up last year after having released two milestone albums, Paramount and The Art Of Navigating By The Stars. So I'm really looking forward to the new album! And guess how I took notice of Subsignal today: they'll be playing at the same festival here in germany a few slots before PRR in July! I have no clue if Sieges Even are popular or even known outside of germany (heck, they haven't been very popular over here either...), but they have amazing melodies and great vocals, so I can only recommend you check out some of the samples from the two albums above.

The new Isis should have come out 2 days ago... Yes, it did. Me and a friend preordered the blue and yellow vinyl a few weeks ago. Hope it'll arrive before the weekend...

On a higher note, somebody (I don't know how) needs to post the album cover on the wiki page for AVO. It looks so empty without it. If I knew more about the album/editing pages I would do it, but I couldn't really figure it out, as I am a nub. You're not wrong, that coding is a mystery to me...there's me thinking 'oh I'll go and sort that out and prove my wonderfulness' but that really is a minefield I can't work out...so, clearly, we can be nubs together! Heh, yeah, it's not only the coding, it's mainly their rules that can drive you nuts. I added a page for the VC single last night and it was removed again within five minutes. Fortunately by some other huge PRR fan whom I had a nice chat with afterwards (and who explained to me why the page, unfortunately, had to be removed). Anyway, I've added the album cover for AVO, along with mentioning that the artwork was done by Chloe, in the hope that this will justify the use of a non-free image. (I spent most of the time reading stuff on what is and what isn't allowed under which circumstances.) So, keep your fingers crossed that no-one comes up with a good reason to throw the image out again...

I'm still a bit unhappy with the heavy colour noise in some of the Konstanz photos (being caused by the fact that the lighting was predominantly blue and I had to amplify the red channel beyond sane levels), so I might actually tweak them a little next week when I'm back home and have access to the original files again. As promised, I've updated the photos now.

Hehe...PRR's gloomy side...hehe. I like that. For some terrible reason that word triggers a Freudian mental association with Eeyore (sp??) from Whinnie the Pooh. Hehe, sorry for that. But that's quite an nice choice. The Nimos acoustic version is actually a really good idea for summing up PRR. Not sure the two minute sound of free quite does them justice though... Well, SOF already features quite a lot of PRR's trademarks. Great vocals, catchy melodies, heavy guitars. As I said, it's not as complex and diversified, but it's really one of those songs that I sometimes feel the need to listen to. It's really unique in its own way. Thing I'm realising from reading these lists to sum up or get the 'best of' PRR, is that basically all the songs are good enough to be on such a list - there's no really poor song...or even slightly poor song. Sound of Free is a good example! Agreed!

Ok, better late than never! Choosing only 8 songs is really tough (initially, I had 15 songs on that introduction CD), but here they are: 1. In Aurélia (Live) 2. The Exact Colour 3. Victorious Cupid (Single Version) 4. Goshen's Remains 5. The Twyncyn / Trembling Willows 6. The Gloaming 7. Sound Of Free 8. Nimos & Tambos (Acoustic Version) Rationale: - I tried not to choose too many tracks from the "regular" albums, so there will be still enough to explore after listening to the intro disc. So only one track from each of TDT and AVO.
- OTOH, I tried to choose songs that show the full spectrum of PRR.
- The live version of In Aurélia on the Nearfest CD absolutely rocks! The intro, the drums, the vocals, the guitar work, everything is just amazing.
- The Exact Colour is one of my favourites, so it just has to be in here.
- VC is nice to get up to speed after TEC. I chose the single version because it took me a while to get used to the new album mix. (I like the new mix, but IMHO it lacks the transparency of the single version.)
- Goshen's is the track that perfectly summarizes TDT.
- The Twyncyn / TW to show the gloomy side of PRR.
- I didn't like The Gloaming very much when I first listened to it, but it's starting to become my favourite song on AVO (which just means it's growing faster than the rest ). Shows their electronic side. I think two weeks ago I would have chosen Les Malheurs instead, but The Gloaming seems like a better contrast in between TW and SOF.
- Sound Of Free shows the early PRR and is just a fantastic song, even though it might be missing the complexity of the later stuff.
- I wanted something quiet for the last song and something that shows yet another side of PRR. So it had to be one of the two lovely acoustics from the VC single.
I've just listened to exactly that playlist and must admit that I really like it. Even the song transitions are quite pleasing. /me hits the repeat button... ;D
