I'm not a massive fan of Tempest, I like a lot of it but the heavy riff bit is just so out of place, it feels like it's just been crowbarred into the song because they felt there had to be a heavy guitar part somewhere. It ruins the flow. I agree that it's not going to be my favourite PRR song ever, but I totally dig the part when the heavy riff comes in. It's kind of unexpected, but I hit me as a positive surprise. There's so much happening in this song it's a real joy. Sound-wise Tempest is very H&A, but especially the quiet part starting at 1:17 has a lot of Exact Colour feel to it. I really hope they're going to play this live, as I'm absolutely certain that it'd be amazing.

I totally hope they do. That slow riff with the big live guitar tone will be the heaviest thing they've done, it's lacking enough low end and heft on the recording though.

That of course then absolutely demands a live recording! ;D

So ideal sets for the second half of the gig anyone? Lets say you can have seven songs plus two encore, only AVO and H&A tracks allowed, and of course Tempest if you choose. I'll say:
Victorious Cupid Les Malheurs Valour Gloaming Apogee Blitzkrieg Open Insurrection --- Fight Fire Deus

I'll say: Victorious Cupid Les Malheurs Valour Gloaming Apogee Blitzkrieg Open Insurrection --- Fight Fire Deus Cupid?! When you've only got a few non-TDT slots to play with? Sometimes, TDF, I do not get you at all... ;D Okay, so this is what I would go for: Blitzkrieg Open Insurrection Les Malheurs Never Divide Apogee Deus Ex Machina Fight Fire --- Tempest AVO The irreplaceables in that set being Blitzkrieg, Malheurs, Deus and AVO. For the others I can see arguments for and against their inclusion, but those four would definitely make up 4 of my top 6-7 PRR songs and would have to be in there at all costs. EDIT - I forgot about Tempest, added for the sheer uniqueness factor given that this tour will be the only ever chance to hear it live, albeit it would be a strong contender even if it had featured on AVO or H&A anyway for me. I have it replacing Black Mourning in my set, which is reluctantly benched from the limited selection we're making.

No Deus, MHX? Brave man, would've thought that Deus in particular would be down on every last AVO/H&A set wishlist out there!
Another hat in the ring for Never Divide though: I like your style! #catchychorusesforthewin

No Deus, MHX? Brave man, would've thought that Deus in particular would be down on every last AVO/H&A set wishlist out there! I don't know, I found this one surprisingly easy to drop, even knowing how amazing it is live. But given that it's been part of every (even the shortest) gig I've seen so far, it was kind of an obvious choice for me. (EDIT: I know I'm going to regret this at some point!) Another hat in the ring for Never Divide though: I like your style! #catchychorusesforthewin Heh, indeed! Never Divide has totally grown on me over the past year and I can imagine it'd gain a lot from being spiced up with some extra live guitars and Paul's drumming. Before your edit, I was totally surprised to see only setlists missing Tempest... tssss!

Cupid's always been one of my favourite songs, and I'll stand by it to the end god dammit! I don't feel many qualms about dropping AVO or Tempest, as the former I've heard too many times and the latter just doesn't appeal so much, especially as I've not heard it enough to feel like its a real PRR song. I'm surprised neither of you chaps has valour on the set though...definitely got be one of the best on H&A imo.

Also, there seem to be hints on twitter that the full set could be 19 or 20 songs - if TDT is 9 songs that leaves 10 or 11 for the non-TDT half, which is very exciting! My hopes are rising for Open Insurrection!

Have they not said it would be an hours worth?

I suppose. I'm just so used to disappointment when it comes to length of prr sets...and also I'd have thought 11 songs for prr is over an hour. The average time per track has got to be at least 6 mins, counting random pauses/fade outs etc between songs.

Also from twitter it seems there will be no Tempest or DVD. Oh well.
