So, I'm a little behind the times, as I was on holiday when Tempest came out originally and then have had a ridiculously hectic week or so but I have to agree, I have mixed feelings about Tempest.
It's definitely a good track and there are things I love about it, some of the guitar is lovely, as are the harmonies (as always...) and personally, I do like the heavy bit, I think it fits well. But the track does have the feel a bit like some of the fillers on AVO at times. I can't quite put my fingers on why, it just feels like it's missing a bit of the depth of their best tracks. This might be a time thing, after all we all know how long it has taken these guys in the past to put out their best material!
There's also the fact that listening to it is very much a reminder that we're at the end, at the moment, which definitely doesn't help the enjoyment levels- I can't help but feel a bit sad when I hear it! It's grown on me over the last week though and I'm definitely not saying it's bad, it's just not their best.
It's a shame we're not going to hear it live as I have a strong suspicion it's one that could really come into its own live, like I found Victorious Cupid to do.
