it's such a shame that they have sunk to these depths now.... It kind of baffles me...it's like the gig in Leicester they did in April, it just didn't make any sense for them as a band, tiny crowd, one-off gig that hardly anyone could make it to and hardly getting paid a penny for it, I can't honestly believe they'll be making much from this one either. If they're not touring to record, that makes sense. If they do little gigs in London/Reading to keep themselves practiced live, that kind of makes sense as they know they will pull a reasonable audience in those places. It's not that I don't want to see them playing live regularly because I do. But these random, one-off things just seem a waste of their time if you ask me, if anything they damage their reputation more than benifit it...but that's just my opinion I suppose.

totally agreed.... it does absolutley nothing for the 'mystery' of the band.... leicester in april, the dome back in december, it's like bookers won't touch them as a headline act save for in Reading/sometimes London... It DOES hurt their reputation, but is indicative of a band in decline I'm sorry to say...

Blimey...I was joking! Is it really as serious as that? See what BA means tho....Monday night, £4 entry, 8 'acts'......Still, they are headlining so I suppose that's something

All I'm asking is what is to be gained from playing on an unsigned bill, with student DJ's, in a place that isn't a proper venue, with what is likely to be a below par PA? I'm not going anyway so I don't care.... I just think that most bands (even at PRR level) would baulk at an offer to do a gig like this! BA knows what I mean!

Couldn't agree more...why lay out on transport to Southampton to headline 4 unknown bands and get rock all for it? I seriously doubt that they will make a profit on the gig. They could do a Home Counties based headline gig on a Saturday and get much more. Who the heck books these gigs? Do they have a death wish? Other bands tour, other bands have crap nights where one man and his dog turn up. Why don't PRR ? There's obviously no shortage of other headline tours to support. Look who PRR have supported in the past and ask "why no UK headline tour". I am bemused.....I'm also going to stop ranting now.............. ....and it comes to a pretty pass when even Harkins isn't going....has he lost his passion for the band

It's true, I do...but I'd like to remain optimistic and hope that they can sort themselves out cos they could, possibly with new management- sometimes I can't help but think even I could do a better job at it...usually after they book a gig like this or the one at The Dome last year- at least Leciester one was for charity I suppose. Maybe once they get this album sorted then they'll get going properly on touring and promoting it and not just in Europe!

Not being pessimistic, i hope they can turn it around... just saying that playing a gig like this is not going to win too many 'fans' - I just imagine it as drunk students (nothing against students!) who have turned up because their uni friends are DJing/playing, and most will either have left because said friends have finished playing/be too drunk to even remember PRR's long winded name by the time they hit the stage...!! As BA says, and I have believed for a long time, PRR's manager must be a little dooh-lally, either that or he's a genius, a man of vision... and this is all part of some grand masterplan! From headlining Islington Academy & a packed-out Barfly to playing a 'metal' gig at Tufnell Park Dome in 11 months...now a student party in Southampton! Am i a pessimist? I don't believe so, and if you still think I am then maybe I should put it another way..."I believe that the club will be a quarter full by the time they hit the stage!". There, the eternal optimist!

Let's not forget that, between said 2 disasters, they managed to put in 2 highly successful tours of Europe. What's the difference. Why can't they tour here in Britain??

They just need to get a few more people like Steven Wilson on their side...

It's interesting that you both mention the management of the band as being the root cause of these 'awful' UK gigs. Is he the tall, bald guy (Jonathan , I think) who I was talking to at a gig in Reading 2 years ago? He seemed ok, like he knew what was what. Surely the band has a say when and where they play? I don't know anything about the mechanics of getting a gig, but I would have thought that promoters were queueing up to put them on. Then there is a post elsewhere on this board about the band not even replying to the CRS when asked to play. I don't get it - it seems like they don't want to play in England any more, but will jaunt off to Europe at the drop of a hat, like the PT tour which literally came out of nowhere.
I don't get it...........

It is Jonathan yeah.
And I'd bet Promoters aren't jumping to put them on at the moment, they've had no recent promo in the UK and nothing to suggest outside Reading and London they'd pull a crowd that would fill venues you'd expect them to play.
