Oh yeah, now I've read some of the other posts, I want to add to TDF's point about lyric reprisals. I also love the way, like in TDT, that they bring in old choruses/phrases - particularly the elctro Deus bit that creeps in at the end of AVO.

but I do think that the same phasering-in(?) is used, to much greater effect, on the “Amor, Amor, Vincit…” bit in AVO and to use it twice reduces its coolness/power. It's not that big an thing, surely. I'm sure it's used more than twice and is a fairly standard way of introducing a new section, not just for PRR. dark fourth, even though we may not exactly fall in love with Chloe's artwork, it is definitely appropriate for an album that deals with love (specifically carnal love). While it's not TDT artwork, which was just so, so, so, classy it was stylish, and the abrupt change of artistic styles may not be quite the most appealing thing ever, remember PRR has just undergone a pretty major change in their music stlye as well. Thus, I feel that the album's theme and the rapid change in (sub?)genre from the band pretty well warrants this artwork. Fair enough. I do agree that the artwork suits the style of the music in being dark and brutal, just not in being powerful and aesthetically very very appealing. EDIT: And about the lack of Chloe, I think most people (or at least I was) were referring to the lack of Chloe's lead parts. Sure, we heard her in the songs, but she was always backing vocals. In TDT, the songs where she leading were so amazing it was divine! Not minimize ANY of the other male vocalists, and in fact, I really enjoyed Jon's performance in DEM, and he is an amazing singer, I just feel that PRR has always had extraordinary amounts of variety, from instruments and vocals. I felt that Jon was dominating a little in AVO, whereas they all had an even balance in TDT. I hope that explains it better. Again fair enough...I think I kind of agree actually. But there would certainly be no point in forcing Chloe parts into the music if they're not right for the occasion. I think the whole style of TDT is much better suited to Chloe than AVO, and AVO is much better suited to Jon's dominance. So in my opinion it's musically justified and this is probably why I didn't miss Chloe too much on the first listen, even though I'm totally with you in adoring her parts on the first album. Does anyone know the dude who keeps shouting out 'Bullets!' at PRR gigs? That dude gets everywhere! Sure I heard him at Nottingham and every London gig I've been to! I'm sure I've shouted it on occasion, but I definitely wasn't at Nottingham or any London gigs since November. I remember one time we put big signs on each band member's instruments before they came on saying 'bullitts dominae'. Got a smile from Jon, which was a surprise.

I think it is true that Chloe is less dominant vocally on this album, but tbh I always find myself focussing on her in Malheurs and Apogee, even if she isn't lead. Those are also probably my two favourite songs on the album. My iTunes count certainly backs that up.

Actually does anyone know if the androgynous person who was the uunfortunate subject of whatever it is that is on the cover and in the booklet, is a man or woman? I mean, it's got lipstick, but no breasts. What the hell is this? Seriously.

True, imao as well:)
Though to be pedantic as well as arrogant, it wasn't an opinion, it was a question.

I received the digi pack the other day and have been listening to it none stop. I have a bit of a retro feeling when listening to the cd. Human League, Depeche Mode. Love it, brilliant stuff.

I've only started listening to AVO the last couple of days, but I'm really getting into it. Not listened to it enough to give my track by track verdict, but I'm excited about hearing most of it live. Favourite track at the moment has to be Deus, or even Apogee, not taking anything away from the other tracks. I agree Disconnect was difficult to get into, as it was a huge change from the normal, but I think after a couple of listens, it's really good.

Really? I can't work it out... I'm still not sure about it as an album artwork, it's like looking at a naked woman through a kaleidoscope.

I came round to it almost instantly when I actually saw it printed, and I was pretty anti the artwork when it first appeared online.

I still can't take to it. I was very much in love with their previous artwork. I respect that they can't carry on with it as it becomes less about artwork and more of a template, but it did appeal to me on many levels.

I mean the cover is one thing, I may be coming round to it, but the inside fold outs where the disks are...? With the white background? It's hiddeous. And the inlay booklet is just weird as hell, with the writing on the strange images so you can't read it, and the weird spacing thing which they copied from In Rainbows and didn't work there and doesn't work here. And why does it have loads of spelling mistakes? I mean one 'Dues' is a typo, but this is just weird...I understand the jist and the feeling that's aimed at but I think it could have been done much better. And I LOVE this album...!

I'm actually not convinced all the lyrics are totally right either, there are some that no matter how hard you listen, what they've got written there is definately gramatically different from what you hear.

My my, you and I are at odds tonight, TDF: you'll be telling me you're a Family Guy-watching Arsenal fan next... ;D
I like the AVO artwork better than the TDT artwork. Neither of them are Frances The Mute (my own personal Gold Standard in album art), but of the two I prefer AVO's artwork.
Do agree that some of the spacing of the text in the lyric booklet is a bit bonkers though, and the multiple instances of "Dues" rather "Deus" is buffoonery of the highest order: does no one proof-read these boys before they go to the printers? Aside from that, artwork in AVO is pretty decent inside and out for me.
