well I must have missed it, but apparently it was posted here somewhere about Jonathan saying the next LP could be coming in March. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pure_Reason_RevolutionHowever, their manager has quoted on the unofficial Proboard fans' forum that March 2008 will be the earliest release date, blaming the delay on 'ill luck'

Ah, the ever reliable Wikipedia, especially when it comes to PRR...
On a separate note, I love the fact Chloe is the only one to get her own page on there!

In fairness I'd say with the Period Pains stuff, she's the only on notable enough to deserve her own page.
Unless anyone creates one for themselves...

Although I do often feel that Jon doesn't get enough recognition for being a genius himself (some would say The genius). That's not to put Chloe or the others down....they're all geniuses in their own way of course...

genius? young man, where did you hear that word? you must never use that word again, or i will wash your mouth out with soap and water. at least until you know what t means...! as for a march release, i'm kinda hopeful. March 2009... perhaps.

I agree. Genius is a MUCH overused word. Jon just knows what Floyd and the Beach Boys sounded like ...ok, I'm over simplifiying it a touch.

Genius is a horribly overused word, I agree, which is why I only ever use it when it is truly deserved. And if we, the fans of PRR, can't agree that the person who wrote the songs we all love so much is more than a plagiarist, then what hope does PRR have of ever getting the recognition we all want it to have?

Can't argue with not calling Jon/Chloe/Jamie/Paul geniuses yet (how many geniuses in music are there? - not many), but who knows what work they'll do in the future? Matt Bellamy most definitely wasn't a genius at the time that Showbiz was released (albeit Muse were certainly very promising then), but I'd argue that from Origin Of Symmetry onwards Matt Bellamy is a legitimate shout for the label 'genius'. PRR might make an album of genius in the nearer or further future or they might not. The Dark Third certainly bodes well for the future, it's just a matter of chance as to whether they ever make that quantum leap from good/great to perfection/genius. Who knows?
I wouldn't say that Jon is a plagiarist though, that is far too harsh. Jon is no more of a plagiarist from Pink Floyd and The Beach Boys than, say, Thom Yorke was from The Pixies (early on) and WARP's entire back catalogue (more recently). Ditto with Matt Bellamy from Jeff Buckley/Nirvana/Queen. Even nicking the line The Bright Ambassadors Of Morning for their flagship song is no worse than Radiohead being named after a Talking Heads song. Influences don't always equal plagiarism, and I'd say PRR put enough of their own stamp on their music to be free from being called plagiarists.

'showbiz' sold bucket loads of records, providing matt bellamy with a platform on which people could judge him a genius. "tdt" probably only sold a couple of thousand, of which blonde ambassador bought 500 probably!! I can catagorically tell you that none of the members of PRR (past or present) are anywhere near reaching genius. they write nice songs, and can almost pass as musicians. not genius. fuck they cant even get it together to release an album within 4 months of a promised release date. geniuses always carry an almanac on their person.

Nooo...what on earth would make you think that Last count is about 5 anyway, with the various releases and a copy for my ma. So there. Anyway, nope not genius but pretty bloody talented would be my verdict. I don't actually know how many people I would call a genius come to think of it, very, very few.

Kevin Gilbert in my mind was a genius in terms of his music knowledge and talent.
I do recall Jon talking about his background and the origins of PRR and his *thesis* of course being about how to prove Brian Wilson was a genius.

Probably all the more reason why we couldn't describe Jon as a genius mind you, and why I'm sure he'd be pretty shocked that anyone would suggest it...while I love PRR, Jon is NOT Brian Wilson...last I checked he was still verging on sane, for a start!

"Jon is NOT Brian Wilson...last I checked he was still verging on sane, for a start!"
That's true. How bout we compromise and say that when Jon is diagnosed as insane, we can officially call him a genius. Let's see how long that takes....
No scew it: I defend my position even with him being sane! There is very little music indeed that comes close to being as good as the Dark Third (or their other stuff). It's friggin incredible! They don't need to produce a whole score of new stuff of better quality to earn the label, what they've done already is stunning (that's not to say I don't desparately want new stuff). Jon's music writing and the sound his band creates are virtually unparalleled; the likes of Muse, Radiohead, Floyd and even the mighty Brian Wilson don't come close (much as I love them all). There are few true ginuses in the world, but if Jon isn't one of them, then I don't know who is.
Btw, just to clarify: I wasn't calling him a plagiarist. I think his fantastic use of references, from 60's harmonisers to early 19th century romantic poets is one of his greatest abilities.
